3 day Berwyn Mountain Trail Ride

Designed for the more experienced rider.
Day 1 The big one! with 7 hours of riding plus 2 breaks, we set out at 9am from Springhill, we take the opportunity after warming up our horses to enjoy a few canters. After dropping off the Pen-Y-Gwelly plateau, we enjoy the fantastic ride up the Gyrn, using a track of a quality long lost from most area of the UK.

We then stop to enjoy our early picknic lunch before moving on quickly enjoying·more fantastic scenery and pretty villages along country lanes farm tracks

Over open mountain on to Tan y pistyll the site of the highest waterfall in England and Wales, where we enjoy tea and cakes, and for those with some energy left can enjoy a walk to the top of the waterfall or even enjoy an invigorating shower at the base

After our break·we set out on our most challenging climb, sometime needing to dismount to lead the horses, before we·end the first day at the New Inn Llangynog.


Day 2 A much more relaxing day, before we set out we visit St Melangell Church and learn all about this 7th century female saint, and find out why such a small quaint, but popular church ended up in such a remote spot.
Setting out on horseback, we get to view a new perspective of the Berwyn range, moving from the dramatic steep sided valleys, we stop to enjoy our picnic lunch before movin on to the more gentle sloping decent on the other side. Arriving at the horses second nights destination on the outskirts of the remote village of Llandrillo, we get our horses sorted. Whist they are enjoying a well deserved meal, we enjoy tea and homemade cakes so wonderful, clients have been known to come on our trail ride for just this moment!
Later after a shower and change, we enjoy a pleasant evening in the local pub with great grub and friendly Welsh speaking locals before retiring back to our camp/B&B for the night.

Day 3·Out third day involves the ride back right over the Berwyn mountains, some fantastic canters out in open moorland·taking us to the most remote and highest point of the ride, enroute we visit one of the many prehistoric stone circles that are in the area. Enroute to the top we cross through the Berwyn nature reserve.

From the top views are without parallel from snowdon, to the rhinogs in the west, the Clwydians in the north, and the Shropshire plain and beyond to the east.

A picnic lunch is provided that we enjoy whist enjoying wonderful views, or by a remote stream and waterfall, we set out on the last leg of the homeward journey enjoying the speed and enthusiasm the horses display when going home.
On the way home we follow the watershed line between north and south wales, (the river Tanat/Severn on the south and the Ceiriog/Dee to the north) never getting lower that 1200 feet above sea level at any point.
There are options to extend your visit by staying further nights either before or after and enjoying rides around the Ceiriog Valley.
It is strongly recommened that you arrive the day before and arrange to stay here.
Your Baggage is transferred for you, Picnics are all provided (please inform us of any special dietary requirments) saddle bags are included and for those camping we provide comfortable inflatable mattresses.
This ride is for experienced riders only, and we will need to assess you ability prior to this ride, by taking you along on a short ride, which can be the evening before.

2 day Way Fairer Trail Ride
Setting out from Springhill we ride down the mountain into the valley bottom, riding along side the Ceiriog river along the old tramway, originally built to take the residents and products of the valley (Wool, Slate and granite) to the Llangollen canal at Chirk. we then rise above the valley starting our assent around Pandy rock, through the ancient tracks, until we arrive at Llanarmon for our lunch.
